Our congregation invites every member to contribute a few cents at every meal. This simple act is an expression of thanks for what we have received. It is also a commitment to share with others. You can start at any time, anywhere.
How you can participate:
For every meal you eat per day, put aside some coins. It’s fun to designate a container for this collection. Sure, a couple of coins may seem like nothing, but it adds up! This is an ongoing process of giving back, and it’s a very small act of paying it forward, which has a very large impact on our community. It’s something simple that you can do within your home every day. The church collects these donations on a quarterly basis.
How much your pennies matter:
How much power does a penny have? Well, 14 pennies will provide 1 pound of food from Second Harvest Food Bank. 69 pennies will buy a can of soup to feed 2 people a hot meal. 150 pennies will provide 1 child a hot meal through the Kid’s Cafe Feeding Program. 2,000 pennies will provide a bag of food to feed a family of 4 with meals for 3 days.
Who is your money impacting?
Your support of P.A.T.H. (Presbyterian Answer To Hunger) helps our partners combat hunger in many ways and in many places. These partners are Second Harvest Food Bank (distributes meals to partner feeding programs across our six-county area); Society of St. Andrew (SoSA) which coordinates gleaning events with volunteers to provide fresh, nutritious produce to local food banks; Alliance for International Reforestation (AIR) in Guatemala which plants trees to provide fruit and prevent mudslides; and Madagascar Project (Dan and Elizabeth Turk, PC (USA) Missionaries) allowing Dan to train seminary students to plant and cultivate fruit trees.
When should you start?
You can start right now with your next meal. If you don’t get a chance to donate at every meal, that’s ok. Putting aside a couple coins, or any amount you would like, each day will help make a difference. Our next collection will be on July 30, 2017. The compassion committee will have a table outside of Fellowship Hall to take the donations.
