Our congregation celebrates Pentecost this Sunday, May 15th. On this day, the Holy Spirit descended as tongues of fire over the heads of the Apostles, giving them the gift to speak to all nations in their own tongues and spread the Good News. This event marked the birth of Christ’s church.
In the Presbyterian Church (USA), an offering is received on the day of Pentecost to support programs for youth, young adults, and children at-risk. This offering is very special in that 40% of the offering remains in our own community, this year helping the Women’s Residential Counseling Center (under the auspices of the Center for Women and Families/Coalition for the Homeless). The remaining 60% of the collection supports ministries through the Presbyterian Ministry Agency.
